The Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi announced that tourists and residents in the capital are no longer required to present a license to purchase alcoholic drinks.
According to a report published by Expat Media, it sent a circular to establishments and retailers that they will no longer require customers to present an alcohol license when buying alcoholic drinks.
It is only applicable to residents and tourists who are at least 21 years old and are purchasing it for personal consumption and not for sale. The drinks must also be consumed at home or in licensed areas.
“We would like to announce the cancellation of alcohol licenses for individuals, where residents and tourists will be permitted to buy and possess alcohol from all licensed retail shops, and are allowed to drink within tourism and hotel establishments, clubs and independent outlets, in accordance with the following requirements,” the circular noted.
