Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced a six-month taxi-sharing pilot service between Dubai and Abu Dhabi, aiming to offer passengers an affordable and efficient travel option. The service, which began on Monday, allows passengers to split fares by sharing rides from Ibn Battuta Centre in Dubai to Al Wahda Centre in Abu Dhabi, with potential savings of up to 75%.
The initiative is designed to lower travel costs, especially for frequent commuters, with shared rides costing Dh66 per person when the taxi has four passengers. For groups of two or three, fares are Dh132 and Dh88 per passenger, respectively. Payments can be made conveniently through bank cards or Nol cards.
Adel Shakri, Director of Planning and Business Development at RTA’s Public Transport Agency, highlighted that the initiative not only cuts costs but also reduces traffic and carbon emissions by encouraging shared rides. Based on the success of this pilot, RTA may consider expanding the service to other routes.
