A Dubai-based foundation catering to women and children will use animal therapy to help survivors of abuse.
As announced at the Expo 2020 Dubai, the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children said people housed at the foundation will spend time with the animals.
“This unique therapy programme can complement or even replace the traditional psychotherapy sessions,” Sheikha Al Mansouri, acting director-general of Dubai Foundation for Women and Children, was quoted as saying by The National.
Al Mansouri said that the type of therapy has been known to improve people’s social performance, their psychological and adaptive functioning, especially if they have been through trauma.
The foundation will prioritize those victims of critical cases who show symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, or depression.
