Gas Explosion In Abu Dhabi Kills 2 People



The gas explosion that happened in Abu Dhabi on Monday, August 31, has claimed two lives, Abu Dhabi Police confirmed.


A number of injured residents was taken to a hospital after sustaining minor and moderate injuries.


"According to on-site investigations, the incident was caused by a misalignment in the gas container fittings following refuelling," the Abu Dhabi Media Office said.


Residents living in the building were also evacuated. The Rapid Intervention Teams of the Emergency and Public Safety Directorate were spotted at the site to ensure the public is safe.


Two people have died from the incident--one was near the site and a the other was one just a passer-by that was hit by debris.


"Unfortunately, two victims lost their lives – one near the site of the incident, and a second passer-by who was hit by debris. We extend our heartfelt condolences to their families, God rest their souls," the capital's media office added.


"A report was received in the operation room this morning about an explosion in a restaurant. The rapid intervention teams immediately moved to Al Falah Centre in the Emergency Directorate and Public Safety at Abu Dhabi Police," police said in a statement.
