Massive Fire in Dubai Kills Emirati Firefighter

A massive fire engulfed the Al Kabayel Centre in the Al Awir area on Friday, leading to a tragic roof collapse that claimed the life of Emirati firefighter, Sergeant Omar Khalifa Salem Al Ketbi.

The Dubai Civil Defence Operations Room received the first notification of the fire at 12.32 pm on Friday.

A team from the Al Mizhar Fire Station was promptly dispatched, arriving at the scene of the accident just six minutes later.

To further assist in controlling the blaze, additional support was deployed from the Rashidiya Fire Station and the Nad Al Sheba Fire Station.

Despite the relentless efforts of the Dubai Civil Defence teams, the roof of the building partially collapsed during the cooling phase at around 7.20 pm.

This unforeseen event resulted in the tragic death of 29-year-old Sergeant Al Ketbi, who had been serving with the Dubai Civil Defence since September 2017.

In the aftermath of this devastating incident, Dubai leaders Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council, and Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Federal Tax Authority (FTA), First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, took to Twitter to express their condolences.

Both leaders paid tribute to the dedication and bravery of the Dubai Civil Defence forces and emphasized that Sergeant Al Ketbi's sacrifice will always be honored in Dubai.
