In a significant change to UAE residency regulations, employed mothers can now sponsor their overstaying children in cases where the father is either wanted by authorities or in violation of residency laws. This update, announced by the Federal Authority for Identity, Nationality, Customs, and Port Security (ICP), aims to assist families facing legal difficulties during a grace period that runs until October 30.
The grace period allows residency violators to adjust their status without facing penalties. Under the new provision, mothers can step in to sponsor their children if they are working, providing families an opportunity to resolve their legal issues.
“These measures were put in place to help families in difficult circumstances, ensuring that children can remain in the UAE legally while their employed mothers take responsibility for their residency,” an ICP spokesperson explained.
For families whose head is wanted or overstaying, the option remains to either leave the country or adjust their legal status. The ICP stressed that those who leave before the grace period ends can do so without fines, while those who stay must rectify their residency either through sponsorship or by obtaining work visas.
The ICP has urged families to take advantage of the grace period, warning that those who fail to resolve their status by October 30 will face penalties once the waiver period ends.
