Many residents in the UAE have enjoyed a five-day-long weekend as the country marks the Eid Al Fitr celebrations. The question… when is the next long weekend?
Based on a report by Gulf News, workers in the UAE may expect the next long weekend off in July. Depending on the moon-sighting, UAE residents may expect a 6-day break in July.
Sharjah-based astronomer Ebrahim Al Jarwan said that the Arafat Day marks the second day of Haj, or the pilgrimage. He said that Arafat Day, the 9th day of Dhu Al Hijja, would fall on July 19 while Eid Al Adha will fall on July 20. Normally, a day after Arafat Day, Eid Al Adha is observed, marking the conclusion of the pilgrimage to Mecca.
Citing the unified holidays’ calendar released by the government, the Islamic holiday is a confirmed holiday, while private and public employees could get three days off for Eid Al Adha. Shall Al Jarwan’s predictions coincide with the official announcement that will be made by the government, Arafat Day falls on July 19.
