The Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai have issued a joint statement expressing deep gratitude to the UAE Government for launching the 2024 Amnesty Program, an initiative aimed at helping undocumented individuals rectify their visa status or return home without penalties.
In the statement released on December 18, 2024, the Embassy and Consulate highlighted the UAE's humanitarian gesture, acknowledging its commitment to supporting migrant communities, including thousands of undocumented Filipinos.
“We extend our sincerest gratitude to the UAE Government for its generosity and compassion in offering the 2024 Amnesty Program. This initiative demonstrates the UAE's dedication to supporting migrant communities,” the statement read.
The 2024 Amnesty Program allows undocumented Filipinos in the UAE to either legalize their immigration status or facilitate their return to the Philippines without facing legal repercussions or paying overstay fines. This has provided relief to many, particularly those who have faced years of challenges due to their undocumented status.
“We have witnessed many inspiring stories of Filipinos who, after years of being undocumented, have finally been able to return home or secure legal residency. These stories of hope and new beginnings are a powerful illustration of the impact of the UAE's generosity,” the joint statement continued.
As of mid-December, thousands of Filipinos have availed themselves of the program. Some have successfully legalized their status, while others, including families with children, have opted for repatriation.
The Embassy and Consulate also called on eligible Filipinos to act before the deadline:
“If you are eligible for the UAE Amnesty Program, please take action now. Do not wait until the deadline of 31 December 2024. This is your chance to secure your future, and we are here to support you every step of the way.”
