Philippines Secures Historic Bronze In 2025 Asia-pacific Women’s Lacrosse Championship

The Philippines achieved a historic milestone by clinching its first-ever women’s senior lacrosse medal with a commanding 18-6 victory over Chinese Taipei to secure bronze at the 2025 Asia-Pacific Women’s Lacrosse Championship in Queensland, Australia, on Saturday.

This marks the country's first medal in any international women’s lacrosse tournament and a groundbreaking achievement for the Philippine field lacrosse program.

Steph Lazo spearheaded the team’s triumph, scoring five goals in the bronze medal game. Her impressive performance followed a pivotal four-goal outing during the tournament opener against China. Sarah Nelson, Lizzie de Guzman, and Cat Roxas each contributed three points to the win.

“This means absolutely everything,” Lazo said. “From the very start of this tournament, we faced adversity and stuck together. We adapted and adjusted, and this means so much for our country.”

The Philippines had already secured a historic qualification for the world championship next year after starting the tournament with back-to-back wins. This will be the country’s first-ever appearance in the global competition.

In the championship match, Japan defeated Australia, 9-5, to claim the gold medal.
