Philippine Senator Sherwin Gatchalian recently visited the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, where he met with Consul General Marford Angeles and other officials to discuss pressing concerns of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). The senator also joined the year-end celebration of the Filipino Social Club-Dubai, fostering camaraderie and connection with community members.
The festive year-end party, held with joy and laughter, was attended by distinguished guests, including Gatchalian’s brother Kenneth Gatchalian, President of Waterfront Hotels in the Philippines, and his daughter, Lexi. The gathering featured leaders from various Filipino groups in Dubai, as well as Vice Consul Jim Jimeno, Labor Attaché Atty. John Rio Bautista, and Migrant Workers Office officials.
During the celebration, Senator Gatchalian expressed his pride in the contributions of Filipinos abroad to both the Philippines and their host countries. “I am inspired and proud of the hardworking Filipinos here who bring honor and aid to our homeland and their second home,” he remarked.
In his Facebook post, Gatchalian highlighted his visit to the consulate, saying, “Tayo po ay bumisita sa Philippine Consulate sa Dubai para makausap si Consul General Marford Angeles tungkol sa kalagayan ng ating mga kababayan, pati ang mga hinaing ng ating mga guro sa United Arab Emirates. Asahan na hindi natin sila pababayaan.” He underscored his commitment to crafting more laws that benefit OFWs and addressing the challenges faced by Filipino educators in the UAE.
The Filipino Social Club-Dubai’s President thanked the attendees for making the event memorable, saying, “Celebrating the Year-End Party with Senator Sherwin Gatchalian and his family was a privilege. Thanks to Hon. ConGen Marford Angeles and Labatt Atty. John Rio Bautista for their unwavering support.”
