The UAE has announced a two-month amnesty period starting September 1 for those who have violated their residence visa rules. During this time, violators can either correct their visa status or exit the country without facing fines.
The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) stated that this move is intended to provide violators with an opportunity to comply with legal requirements and reflects the UAE's commitment to compassion and tolerance. Further details on the amnesty procedures will be provided soon.
Residence visas in the UAE vary in duration depending on the type and sponsor. Those who do not renew or leave the country before their visa expires face fines, which were standardized in 2023 to Dh50 per day for overstaying. Expats have up to six months to renew their visas after cancellation or expiration.
